I’d like a discovery

Send someone discovering

Choose someone you’d like to send discovering, and give them a tiny mission. It can be as specific, silly or open-ended as you like.

There is no registration required and no need to share anything publicly.

  1. Choose your discoverer. A partner, friend, sibling, child, parent, colleague or anyone else who might enjoy keeping an eye out for something on your behalf.
  2. Give them a mission, if you’d like. A few to borrow: find me something yellow in nature; find me the most unexpected thing you see; find me the fluffiest dog. For more, see the full list of mission ideas. The best ones are small.
  3. Send the invitation. Two variants, you choose.

Copy a message below, then edit the bits [in brackets] before you send it.

Variant 1 · Just connect

I’m taking part in Discoveries for ME and I’d love you to be my discoverer.

The idea is very simple: I send you on a tiny mission and you bring a little piece of the world back to me.

Your first mission, should you choose to accept it: [your mission here].

It doesn’t need to be anything special or require a special trip. If you spot something while you’re going about your day, send it my way.

You can read what it involves here: https://www.omfaustralia.ngo/discoveries-for-me/be-a-discoverer/

Variant 2 · Connect, share and fundraise

I’m taking part in Discoveries for ME and I’d love you to be my discoverer.

The idea is very simple: I send you on a tiny mission and you bring a little piece of the world back to me.

Your first mission, should you choose to accept it: [your mission here].

It doesn’t need to be anything special or require a special trip. If you spot something while you’re going about your day, send it my way.

If you’re happy to, you could also share what you find using #DiscoveriesForME, and set up a small fundraising page so your discoveries help fund ME/CFS and Long COVID research too. Completely up to you. The discovery is the heart of it; the rest is a bonus.

A quick note on sharing: [I’m happy to be named and tagged / please share it but keep me anonymous / please keep our discoveries just between us].

You can read what it involves here: https://www.omfaustralia.ngo/discoveries-for-me/be-a-discoverer/

What you’d like to share

Sharing is always optional, and it is your call. When discoveries start coming back, have a think about what you are comfortable with, and let your discoverer know:

  • Happy to be named: they can share the discovery and your first name. Anything more personal, or anything about your health, is a separate yes.
  • Rather stay anonymous: they can share the discovery, but will not identify you.
  • Rather keep it private: it stays just between you.

You can decide differently for each discovery, and you can change your mind any time.

OMF Australia accepts donations of Cryptocurrencies

Make the most of your donation by donating your Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies directly to OMF Australia rather than selling and donating the after-tax proceeds.

  • Your tax deduction will be equal to the fair market value of the donated cryptocurrency (as determined by a qualified appraisal).
  • Donors should consult with a tax advisor for properly recording this donation on a personal tax return.

OMF Australia can accept cryptocurrency donations of any amount.

Donating cryptocurrency is a non-taxable event, meaning you do not owe capital gains tax on the appreciated amount and can deduct it on your taxes. This makes Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency donations one of the most tax-efficient ways to support your favorite cause. If you want to learn more about how donating crypto can lower your taxes, check out thegivingblock.com/faq.
